How many appointments can I make per week?
You can schedule an appointment to work with a mentor up to 3 times per week
What if I need help with a class and not with writing?
If you need subject mentoring, you can schedule an appointment by clicking on the Mentor Schedule by Course schedule in the drop-down menu on WCOnline. Once there, you can narrow the view by selecting a course in the second drop down menu.
Can I request a specific mentor?
Yes! You can read mentor biographies at t by clicking on the mentor’s name on the left-hand side of the page, or by going to our Meet the Mentors page here on the OWL. Writing Center mentors come from a variety of class levels and majors.
What do I need to bring?
Don’t forget to bring your assignment sheet, instructor’s rubric and a rough draft or pre-writing piece to your appointment. If you scheduled a Real Time Online Response or have emailed your paper to the Writing Center, be sure to attach the assignment sheet, rubric, and rough draft to the appointment or email.
What can I expect during the session?
Writers should be prepared to read their draft aloud and work on issues in order of importance: writing processes, content, organization, language use, and format style. The mentor and writer will also focus on good conversation and work together to strengthen both the writer’s writing and writing project. The mentor will ask the writer questions about their work and discuss in detail options and strategies available to make the writer’s writing more effective. Do not be afraid to ask questions about what’s working and what’s not working on the assignment. Writing is about conversation and is often misunderstood as a private skill, but is better understood as a social and creative activity.
Where is the Writing Center located?
The Writing Center is located in the ¶¶Òõ»ÆÉ«app Library, on the first floor in the LRC.

What do I do if the mentor doesn’t get through my entire paper?
Sometimes, it’s not possible to review a longer essay in one appointment. In those cases, you’re encouraged to apply the feedback you received to the rest of the paper. You’re also welcome to make another appointment to discuss your revisions and review the rest.
