Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes
The goals and objectives of the M.S. in AI program are:
- Research and apply current state-of-the-art theories and scientific methods related to artificial intelligence to solve real-world problems.
- Demonstrate the approach of Responsible AI where the ethical implications, risks, and responsibilities of AI solutions should be evaluated within global and societal contexts.
- Design AI systems that are socially responsible, ensuring that AI applications benefit society as a whole.

Flexible Format Designed for Working Professionals
The M.S. in AI program will be offered in hybrid mode with flexible course modalities in order to serve working professionals. Most courses can be taken fully online synchronously or asynchronously. Since an effective AI program will require hands-on experience with real datasets, projects, and case studies, courses that emphasize hands-on experience may require on-campus completion, but at a flexible schedule in that these components can be completed at any time during the academic year.
To complete the Artificial Intelligence master’s degree, students will need to complete a minimum of 34 credit hours, which include 25 credit hours in core courses, including a 3-credit hour Master’s Project, 6 credit hours of foundation courses and 3 credit hours of elective courses. Elective courses may be substituted for foundation courses for students with sufficient background (i.e. baccalaureate degree in computer science or a closely related field).
Unique Practical Capstone Experience
Your final experience in the program is a 3 credit-hour of Master’s Project to earn the MSAI degree. This experience is fulfilled by completing CPSC 69300 AI Master’s Project. In this course, you will develop a solution to an AI-related problem, write a capstone paper, and give a capstone presentation, unless some other method is approved by the capstone adviser and the Graduate Program Director.Â
